Indian luxury trains to offer weddings

Sunday, 26 Jul, 2016 0
Rajasthan’s iconic luxury tourist trains will soon be marketed as the latest elite wedding venues.

Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation will offer no expense spared wedding packages on two luxury trains, the ‘Palace on Wheels’ (POW) and ‘Royal Rajasthan on Wheels’ (RROW) starting this year.

Couples will be able to rent out the entire Palace on Wheels train for a seven night period costing US$370,000.

No price has yet been set for the Royal Rajasthan, the agency said.

"Rajasthan’s luxury trains, POW and RROW are both popular and well known tourism products of Rajasthan. We are hard selling them from the coming season through special packages including weddings. The new incentive package has also been well received by tour operators and travel agents," said director of tourism, Ashutosh A T Pedenekar.

The launch of wedding packages comes in response to falling bookings for the ‘royal trains’ in recent years.

"We are getting a good response from the market and numerous enquires. This will be a unique experience for guests attending a wedding," said Khalid Khan, president of Rajasthan Association of Tour Operators.

Bookings for the Palace on Wheels, which departs from Delhi to Jaisalmer, begin next month.
