Indiana seeking larger conventions
The Indiana Convention Center is going after larger meetings these days.
Several reasons include the recent opening of a new luxury hotel, the 241-room Conrad Indianapolis.
But also under construction is a new 70,000-seat stadium with a retractable roof. When open in 2008, it will offer 100,000 square feet of exhibit space and a dozen meeting rooms.
The new stadium will replace the 58,000-seat RCA Dome, which has hosted conventions for more than 20 years.
The Indiana Convention Center is also due for an expansion.
“We have been unable to bid on more than 100 conventions since 2002” because of not having enough room inventory, said a spokesman for the center.
When complete, the facility should have more than 733,000 square feet of event space.
