India’s tourist helpline to be available in 12 languages
India’s tourism minister says the Incredible India Tourist Helpline will be available in 12 international languages within two months.
Dr Mahesh Sharma made the announcement during a tourism forum with the UNWTO in New Delhi attended by officials from state tourism departments nationwide.
It will expand the helpline from its current two languages – English and Hindi.
The minister explained the government’s strategy to improve services in-country for visiting tourists after criticism over a number of tourism-related issues in recent years, including taxi scams, harassment and lack of good tourist information services in some destinations.
The minister said the government will again expand the e-tourist visa service to nationals of 150 countries by March 2016.
