India’s largest airline IndiGo has landed in Greece for the first time.

The airline is now serving Athens from major hubs Mumbai and Delhi on new A321 XLR aircraft.

It became the first homegrown airline to link India and Greece nonstop.

“IndiGo becomes the first Indian carrier to directly connect the two countries, operating three flights per week on each route, with plans to expand connectivity to additional Greek destinations,” the airline said a release.

The A321 XLR aircraft offers a dozen IndiGoStretch premium seats and 183 in economy class.

At the “Reimagine Tourism in Greece” conference held in Athens in November and organized by Kathimerini newspaper, Marina Valvi, corporate affairs and communications director at Greece’s Aegean Airlines, said India represents an emerging market for Greek tourism.

At a recent tourism conference, Ioanna Papadopoulou, director of communications and marketing at Athens International Airport described 2026 as ‘the year of India.’

As well as IndiGo, Greek carrier Aegean Airlines is launching direct flights to Delhi.
