IndIGo now largest airline outside US, China
The Covid-19 pandemic has led IndiGo to soar up the global airline rankings.
The Indian budget carrier – the largest by market share in the country – is now the seventh largest in the world, based on capacity during January 2021.
OAG data puts IndiGo as currently the largest airline outside the US and China based on January 2021 flight schedules.
The airline is averaging more than 1,000 flights a day with 36,525 scheduled in January.
That is down 24% compared to a year ago.
IndiGo is quite bullish on its prospects for the rest of 2021 and next year.
"As things stabilise, I’m very optimistic that by the end of 2021, I think we’ll be totally back to normal," CEO Ronojoy Dutta told Reuters.
"I think 2022 will be a great year for us in terms of growth and profitability," he added.
