IndiGo to resume Delhi-Singapore flights
Indian budget carrier IndiGo will restart flights to Singapore next month.
The carrier announced it will resume service on the Delhi-Singapore route from September 12.
The airline had pulled out of the Singapore market a few years back due to stiff competition from full service operators such as Jet Airways.
With Jet Airways now out of the picture, IndiGo is aiming to capture surging demand for trips to Singapore, with the low cost segment growing fastest.
"Singapore today is not only a tourist hub, but also a shopper’s paradise and there is a huge demand on the route," said IndiGo chief commercial officer William Boulter.
The airline will also add a second flight on the Delhi-Doha route.
"We are committed to strengthening our international operations from Delhi to important destinations in Asia," Boulter added.
From September 5 IndiGo will shift all its flight operations at Delhi Airport to Terminal 3 due to major upgrades taking place at T2.
IndiGo, which has long been India’s domestic front runner based on market share, has now overtaken Air India as the country’s largest international carrier too, according to CAPA Centre for Aviation.
It now operates about 1,400 flights daily with a fleet size of more than 200 aircraft.
