Industry legend passes away – we farewell Dick Lamb – funeral arrangements
Dick Lamb’s funeral will be held on Friday 16 June at 2.00 pm at St Marys Catholic Church, 264 Miller St, North Sydney, (opposite North Sydney Oval).
As reported on Sunday: –
We very much regret having to advise that Dick Lamb, without doubt an Australian travel industry legend, passed away this morning, Sunday 11 June at approximately 9:00am after a relatively short battle with cancer.
Originally a Kiwi and always a passionate All Blacks supporter, Dick will be missed tremendously and very fondly remembered by colleagues and friends as a true friend and a passionate enthusiast of life and all that it entailed.
His passion for sport, in particular rugby and his legendary contacts and network in the industry always amazed me. Dick knew everybody and if you wanted to know anything about anything, a call to Dick would provide the answer. If he didn’t know, then he would always know someone else who would know the answer!
Dick will be remebered by many for his time at American Express and particularly for the time with his friend and colleague Bill Branch, running Templar Marketing. After selling Templar Dick continued with his work in freight and logistics, but always with a travel industry angle and always with new ways to make a living, even selling caravans!
I will always be grateful to Dick for his help and guidance and always just being there at the end of the phone or for a coffee or chat, in particular when things weren’t going too well for me. When I left BTA to stay in Australia, Dick even arranged somewhere for my family and I to live while we got sorted for our new permanent life in Australia.
Having become firm friends and knowing Dick pretty well, I would imagine that Dick would not want us to be sad at this time, but rather for us all to pop a cork on a bottle of nice red and have a glass to celebrate his life. That is what I will be doing!
Dick, as we have done many times before, cheers, here’s to what a great honour and a privilege it has been knowing you and I look forward to having a glass of red with you again sometime.
Our thoughts are with Marlene, Dick’s lovely wife and his family in New Zealand.
