Inflight magazine ‘interview’ with Hollywood star goes viral
A bizarre article in EgyptAir’s inflight magazine shaming actress Drew Barrymore’s romantic history has gone viral after some readers suggested the interview with the Hollywood star was fake.
Barrymore’s team denied the interview had taken place and told the Huffington Post it was ‘working with the airline’s PR team’.
However, the airline has published statements on social media insisting that the interview with the E.T. star did take place and that the article is genuine.
Spotted by political journalist Adam Baron in the on-board magazine Horus, the article reads: "Despite being unstable in her relationships most of her life, despite the several unsuccessful marriages and despite the busy life of stardom that dominated her life for several years; the beautiful American Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has recently decided to temporary [sic] take an unlimited vacation to play her most crucial role as a mother."
Baron’s tweet, which featured a photo of the article with the comment saying that it was ‘unreal’ has been re-tweeted 2,200 times and ‘liked’ 8,900 times.
The article, which is littered with grammatical errors, includes quotes such as: "I could not resist performing the most important role in my life – being a mother – in which I hope to be conscientious" and "I do not intentionally follow certain parenting methods with my daughters and I do not consult with psychologists".
A question on her post-pregnancy weight, in particular, caused a storm on social media with Barrymore quoted as having said: "I feel overwhelmed when someone tells me that I have regained my image and managed to lose that extra weight.
"However, I find this a great opportunity to encourage every woman who is overweight to work on regaining her beauty and body, especially that it is not as hard as one may think."
In response to comments on social media, EgyptAir wrote: "Dear sir, this a professional magazine interview conducted by Dr Aida Tekla Former president of the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) and one of the voting members of the Golden Globes."
