Innovation key at national tourism conference

Innovation can mean the difference between success and failure, and learning the secrets behind implementing a successful innovation program will be a key focus of an upcoming national tourism conference to be held in Sydney next month.

The Australian Tourism Export Council’s (ATEC) Meeting Place 2008 conference will bring more than 500 inbound tourism operators, decision-makers and tourism product suppliers to Sydney’s Hilton Hotel in December to learn how innovative business practices can mean not only survival but even prosperity during the worst business conditions in living memory.

ATEC Managing Director Matt Hingerty said that the Meeting Place 2008 conference would show the export tourism industry that in these trying times it is more important than ever for tourism businesses and entrepreneurs alike to try new things and think laterally.

“Good ideas are worth their weight in gold,” Mr Hingerty said. “However it’s not enough just to have the idea – you need to be able to make it become reality. ATEC’s Meeting Place onference is dedicated to profitable business for our members – and to encouraging innovation at all levels of the inbound tourism industry.”

“ATEC has a strong focus on fostering innovation. In the past twelve months we have encouraged the inbound sector to investigate the billion-dollar global health and wellbeing tourism market, and have also led members on a trade mission to South America,” Mr Hingerty said.

“Now at Meeting Place 2008 our members will learn how to position themselves to prosper from new and changing market dynamics.”

ATEC’s Innovation seminar will be led by business futurist and innovation expert Craig Rispin, who has more than 20 years’ experience working with some of the most innovative companies in the world in the IT, consumer electronics, online ad broadcasting industries. 

These include Apple, Philips, Disney, Mercedes-Benz, Southwest Airlines and 3M.
