Innovative tourism firms given chance to win £40K
Tourism firms in the UK are being encouraged to enter a government-backed e-commerce awards competition, in which they stand to win £40,000.
The awards are in their fifth year, and are open to all sectors of industry. The aim is to recognise innovation in the use of the internet and information and communication technology. They are open to any UK business with under 250 employees.
The awards are organised by InterForum, a non-profit organisation that helps British companies to conduct their business electronically, and by “UK online for business” – a partnership between the Government and industry that promotes the use of e-business among small and medium sized businesses.
Companies are entered into regional heats, divided by categories (e-business start-ups, e-trading, e-business and the voluntary and community sector) – the winners of each get £2,000. They then compete with other regional winners in their category for a chance to win £8,000. Finally, the four category winners compete head-to-head to win the £40,000 cash prize.
There are also four new categories, introduced for this year’s awards, which could be relevant to travel technology firms. These are: Use of Mobile & Wireless Technology, Use of Broadband Technology, Advanced Supply Chain Integration, and Use of Technology Means Business.
Entries close on 31 July. Nominations can be made on the dedicated website, www.ecommerce-awards.co.uk
