Intelligent seats the next big thing?
Airlines could soon be using special seats that are able to detect potential terrorists – or those who are likely to develop Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).
According to a report in the Daily Express, the new seat, manufactured by the UK firm Qinetiq, have special sensors that are able to tell whether passengers are still for too long, fidgeting, or hyperactive. The makers say that, by highlighting those passengers who do not move around during the flight, the seats could help to prevent DVT.
The seat’s designer Chris Thorpe told the newspaper that future versions of the seat could even detect passengers’ temperature or skin moisture level, as well as being linked to special lighting that goes out when the passenger falls asleep.
The Express reports that the seats could be on the market within a year – and that first class cabins are likely to see them first.
