International group acquires Guernsey hotel

A historic hotel in Guernsey has been acquired by Red Carnation Hotels for an undisclosed sum.

The 63-room Old Government House Hotel & Spa in St. Peter Port dates back to 1858 and was and formerly the official residence of the Queen’s representative to the Bailiwick of Guernsey – The Lt. Governor.

The hotel will remain open with a phased programme of “sympathetic restoration”, according to Red Carnation, which has properties across the globe, including three in London, one in Dorset, one in Geneva and two in South Africa.

The work will align the OGH, as it is affectionately known, with the other properties within the Red Carnation Collection.

This will “provide guests with outstanding levels of comfort whilst retaining the historical charm and intimate ambience for which the OGH has become renowned,” the company said.
