Intrepid office closes as part of merger

Intrepid Travel and The Adventure Company (TAC) have merged their UK operations.

The two say the plan is to triple sales of family holidays over the next three years and to double the combined UK and Ireland total business.

But the move will see the closure of Intrepid Travel’s Westbury office, with staff moved over 65 miles away to TAC’s office in Alton, Hampshire, which will become the Intrepid UK & Ireland head office.

"Those that choose not to accept this offer will be given a fair redundancy package and supported in their efforts to find work elsewhere, said a spokesman.

Both companies are part of the PEAK Adventure Travel Group, which is 60% owned by TUI Travel and 40% owned by Intrepid Travel’s co-founders.

TAC will focus on family holidays "with worldwide sales increasing through strong representation under the Intrepid brand in markets outside the UK".

Meanwhile, Intrepid’s product sales "will increase in the UK market through additional TAC distribution".

Claire Wilson will take on a dual role of managing director, TAC and UK & Ireland regional director of Intrepid Travel, reporting into Geoff Manchester, the group managing director of Intrepid.

She will sit on the Intrepid global management team.

James Thornton will become Intrepid’s group commercial director with responsibility for the global sales and product divisions for the Intrepid Group, reporting into Manchester as a member of the Intrepid global management team.

Earlier this month, specialist tour operator Chameleon Worldwide parted ways with Intrepid Travel.

Melbourne-based Intrepid Travel had taken a stake in the UK niche operator Chameleon Worldwide in 2010.
