Is this the UK’s least punctual flight?
A Wizz Air flight from Luton to Budapest is one of the most often delayed from the UK, according to a flight compensation specialist.
Flight W62206 has never left on time since the route was launch on June 1 last year, said Bott & Co, which assists passengers claiming compensation from airlines for delays and cancellations.
Passengers on the A320 have endured 293 consecutive days of late departures, with delays ranging from two minutes to 12 hours and 18 minutes, it said.
According to Bott & Co, which used data from EUclaim sourced directly from Luton Airport, two-thirds of the Wizz Air flights were delayed more than 15 minutes, which is the Civil Aviation Authority definition of a late departure.
Under EU rules, passengers on nine of the late-running Wizz Air flights would be entitled to compensation as their flights were cancelled or delayed by more than three hours, said Bott & Co, which is already representing 15 passengers who were on delayed flights in June, July, October and November.
The law firm claims they are entitled to €250 (£215) each, however the airline will be able to avoid paying if it can prove the delays or cancellations were due to extraordinary circumstances.
A spokeswoman for Bott & Co said its attention was drawn to flight W62206 because of the number of claims it had received from passengers travelling on different dates.
Paul Hinchliffe, managing director at Bott & Co, said: "Consumers in other EU countries tend to be familiar with their rights under Regulation 261, but that’s not the case here in the UK. We want to change this and help the British public to know their rights and receive the compensation rightly due to them for flight delays and cancellations."
