It Is Snowing Heavily At Falls Creek Again Today

Sunday, 01 Jun, 2007 0

Mother Nature is cooperating with snow buffs coating the alpine resorts with a white blanket of snow a week out from the official start of the 2007 snow season.

A strong cold change brought a welcome 20cm of snow yesterday and the good news is there’s more to come! The weather has certainly changed! Overnight the mercury plummeted below zero at Falls Creek and it is anticipated there will be further snowfalls before the Queen’s Birthday opening weekend.

It could be as good as the opening of the 2000 bumper season if the forecasted cold fronts keep producing liberal quantities of snow.

John Schryver, CEO of Australian Alpine Enterprises said: “This early snow,
and the forecasted low pressure systems crossing the continent, has had an incredible impact on all the staff and business operators at Falls Creek.

“A snowy start to winter is looking positive and our snowmakers are maximising the first ‘snowmaking window’. They are currently producing snow on Drover’s, one of the resort’s family-friendly ski runs, with a number of energy efficient snow guns.

“There’s another snow-bearing has arrived (as forecast) and we are now experiencing heavy snow at Victoria’s largest alpine resort.

“Winter replaced autumn overnight! There’s still 9 days to the official start of another snow season but it feels (and looks) like mid-winter up here again.

“We all relish the thought of snow on the opening weekend and if the current situation (a dramatic change in the weather) continues, it could be a good start to the 2007 winter season at Falls Creek.”
