It’s all Appening in travel
Apps for travellers continue to grow.
For food lovers in Melbourne, and soon nationally in Australia, YumTable is a restaurant site offering last minute restaurant deals and instant call-free bookings via iPhone App or website www.yumtable.com.au
Founded by Craig Winkler (who also founded MYOB), YumTable is a platform for restaurants to connect their empty tables with hungry diners, all at the last minute.
It allows diners to search, in real-time, for available tables by time, cuisine or suburb location and book them on the spot with instant confirmation of the reservation.
The app currently has more than 150 restaurants signed up in Melbourne, from Flower Drum to Fenix and St Judes.
Restaurants offer food and beverage deals exclusively to customers using the service.
Restaurants can also set the deals based on a situation that suits them at that exact time on that day, e.g. ordered too much Atlantic Salmon – they can offer an instant deal.
Diners can search by location, cuisine or restaurant.
Customers book and receive a confirmation text back in real time.
Another app for travellers, the Travelex iPhone app features a holiday Budget Calculator suggesting the cost for bare travel essentials including a bed, beer and a burger in all major currencies.
The app offers daily exchange rates for 143 foreign currencies, visually displaying their fluctuations over the last 120 days.
The Travelex app also allows holders of Cash Passport – a prepaid travel debit card – to reload their prepaid travel cards from their mobile anywhere in the world.
“This is ease and convenience we’ve never seen before,†said Travelex global sales director, Graham Perry.
Each time funds are reloaded into the Cash Passport, the cardholder is protected against future currency fluctuation up until the next reload occurs.
A choice of up to seven major currencies is available, and cardholders have the ability to carry out ATM withdrawals, point-of-sale transactions and online purchases.
