It’s literally raining tequila thanks to Mexico tourism stunt

Celebrating rain is rarely a formula for success for tourism promotional campaigns, but Mexico has come up with an ingenious gimmick to lure more travelers

In collaboration with advertising agency Lapiz, Mexico’s tourist board has invented a cloud that literally rains tequila.

Unveiled at a Berlin art gallery this week, tourism leaders hope there is a thirst for travel to Mexico from tequila loving Germans.

Germany is the second biggest export market for Mexican tequila.

Lapiz developed special humidifiers which vibrates the tequila and in turn transforms it into a cloud-like mist.

It then forms around a plastic structure and is programed to ‘rain’ on time with the weather outside, which just so happens to be Berlin’s wettest time of the year.

Drinkers then hold out their shot glasses, wait for the downpour and take a sip.

"The tequila was pushed into an invisible plastic structure where sprays of tequila mixed with the vapor formed the cloud," Luciana Cani, executive creative director at Lapiz, told The Huffington Post

"With the plastic, we created a base the vapor could form around, but the most important function of the plastic was to work as a condensation surface for the tequila mist."

Sadly, it is just a promotional stunt and there won’t be any tequila-filled clouds floating across the Atlantic anytime soon.
