JAL announces Aeroflot codeshare agreement
Japan Airlines has finally sealed a codesharing pact with Russian flag carrier Aeroflot which will kick off on March 29.
The carriers originally signed a MoU back in 2017 but required both carriers to relocate operations to the respective airports in Moscow and Tokyo for easier onward connections.
Both airlines will continue to operate their current daily services to Russia and Japan.
JAL’s JL code will be added to Aeroflot flights to 10 Russian destinations including St Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi and Krasnodar.
Aeroflot will also codeshare on JAL destinations to Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, Okayama, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Kagoshima and Okinawa.
Aeroflot is launching new flights to Osaka in July 2020.
JASL is also launching flights between Tokyo Narita and Vladivostok this summer.
The two airlines have been cooperating for more than 50 years.
