JAL gets its Dreamliner
Japan Airlines (JAL) has taken delivery of its first two Boeing 787-8s, the second airline to add the Dreamliner to its fleet.
JAL president Yoshiharu Ueki said at the delivery ceremony that the airline will use its 787s on new routes, including to Boston starting in April and to San Diego later this year.
All Nippon Airways (ANA) was the first airline to take delivery of the 787 in October.
JAL has firm orders for 25 787-8s and 20 Boeing 787-9s.
The Qantas Group has 50 of the next-gen jetliners on order – 15 of the base model 787-8 for Jetstar and 35 of the stretched 787-9 to be shared between Qantas and Jetstar – with options for 50 more.
However, delays in delivery will see Jetstar’s first 787 arrive in mid-2013 instead of late 2012, while the first Qantas-liveried 787 could be as late as 2016
