JAL issued stern warning over safety issues
Japan’s transport ministry issued a rare public rebuke of Japan Airlines over a spate of recent safety incidents.
JAL CEO Mitsuko Tottori was issued an official warning and must make a detailed report of measures it will take to boost safety.
It follows a clipped wing incident just a few days ago involving two JAL planes at Tokyo Haneda Airport.
There was a near miss runway incident earlier this month which caused a plane to abort take-off.
The most serious was in January when all 379 people miraculously escaped a burning plane after a runway collision with a small aircraft.
Mitsuko Tottori only started the position as CEO in April and is the airline’s first female CEO.
“There may be more causes of the accidents than we had identified. We will do our utmost to investigate the causes and come up with measures to prevent them,” Tottori said.
