Jane Atkins to head Freedom consortium
Former MyTravel sales and retail commercial head Jane Atkins is to head the Freedom travel agents consortium.
She is replacing Trevor Davis who has been appointed head of retail distribution for the Co-operative Travel Group, formed following the merger between the travel operations of United Co-operatives and The Co-operative Group earlier this year.
Atkins held a dual role at MyTravel involving distribution of MyTravel tour operating brands and procurement for the Going Places retail network.
She is due to take up her new job on December 3, reporting to Alistair Rowland, the group’s director of distribution for direct businesses.
The Freedom Travel Agents’ Consortium is the second largest trading business of the newly merged group, with almost 120 members and a further 25 pending.
Co-operative Travel Group managing director Mike Greenacre said: “The Freedom team has made a great success of the business and Jane’s appointment is crucial to ensuring that this success continues.
“She is well known and respected in the industry and we are delighted that she will be joining us in just a few weeks time.”
Atkins said: “This role presents a great opportunity for me to work with an excellent organisation with a clear business strategy. In a turbulent consortia marketplace, Freedom has security, stability and a great commercial proposition.
“My key role will be to build on Freedom’s strategic direction and in doing so, I will be listening very carefully to members’ views and taking them into account in developing further membership benefits.”
