Visitors to Japan have been warned not to approach Mount Aso after it erupted without warning.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a level 3 warning after black smoke blasted out of the volcano on Japan’s main southern island of Kyushu.
Some visitors had to be evacuated but there were no reports of injuries.
The 1,592-metre-high Mount Aso is a popular hiking spot with tourists.
