Javits expansion in New York approved
At long last, a plan to expand the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York has met final approvals with a $1.7 billion expansion now ready to increase exhibit space by 45% to 1.1 million square feet.
Meeting space will also be increased by 45% to 210,000 square feet.
A headquarters hotel is also part of the project, according to MiMegasite.com
Construction is scheduled to begin this fall, with a 2010 completion.
Meanwhile, New York’s bailiwick of small meetings has a new venue: Ian Schrager’s first hotel here, the reinvented 185-room Gramercy Park. Located at the edge of the historic and exclusive enclave of Gramercy Park, it is a private sanctuary to which access is gained with a $1,000 key.
Starting this fall, groups will be able to spill out from the Roof Club’s meeting room onto three terraces for meetings. The largest one has a capacity of 176.
