JetBlue breaks ground on new terminal extension at JFK
JetBlue has announced this week that it has broken ground on a new multi-billion dollar Terminal 5 extension at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The extension, set to open in early 2015, will have three new gates and an international arrivals hall with a customs facility.
The extension will cover approximately 150,000 square feet and will include sustainable building practices and circulation paths, designed to move customers through the space with minimized walking and travel time. Included are two new additional baggage claim belts and a U.S. Custom and Border Protection, Federal Inspection Service (FIS) that can accommodate up to 1,200 customers per hour.
Design firm Gensler, will use the existing Terminal 5 aesthetic and focus on a "bright, friendly look with abundant natural daylight."
