JetBlue hikes bag fees

JetBlue Airways is hiking bag fees as another way to insulate it from soaring jet fuel costs.

A month after the start of the Iran war, the airline announced bag fees are going up by more than 10%.

The first piece of luggage on flights in the Americas during off peak dates goes up $4 to $39.

During the summer period, it increases to $49.

The bag fee within 24 hours of departure costs $10 more.

This will affect most passengers except elite status rewards members and co-branded credit card holders

“As we experience rising operating costs, we regularly evaluate how to manage those costs while keeping base fares competitive,” JetBlue said.

Fuel costs have surged more than 80% in the past month, trade group Airlines for America says.

“Adjusting fees for optional services used by select customers, such as checked baggage, allows us to continue offering more competitive fares, the airline added.
