JetBlue may expand Mint premium service to Boston
JetBlue is considering an expansion of its new ‘Mint’ premium seating product for transcontinental flights from Boston to the west coast.
Speaking about the Boston plan CEO David Barger said: "I personally believe it would work really well here, I don’t think it’s a matter of if but a matter of when."
If it gets the go ahead it would likely be available from Boston to Los Angeles and San Francisco by early 2016 after a year-long trial on the New York route.
Still in its early days, the airline has high hopes for Mint which should "ramp up pretty quickly to profitability," according to JetBlue president Robin Hayes, speaking at last month’s launch.
It is a major shift from JetBlue’s low cost, one class origins as it makes a serious play for high-end leisure travelers and lucrative business flyers.
Mint class seats recline to fully-flat beds and priced at $599 to $999, are by far the cheapest in the premium market.
Airbus A321 jets with 16 premium seats and four private suites currently fly on the New York-Los Angeles route with San Francisco expected to be added in October.
