JetBlue mulling flights to Guyana
JetBlue is in talks to add Guyana to its growing list of international destinations.
The airline recently held discussions with government officials about starting services.
JetBlue’s Vice President for Network Planning Dave Clark reportedly discussed the move with officials during the recent FCCI Caribbean conference in Florida.
"Jet Blue has indicated its interest in providing service to Guyana and I have indicated to the airline that Guyana is ready to welcome them," said Guyana’s vice president and minister of foreign affairs Carl Greenidge.
"There are some specific issues such as fuel costs in Guyana and others that have to be addressed but I would say they now have a clear indication that they are welcome and we are prepared to examine and seek to resolve the issues about which they have concerns."
It is widely thought Miami is the likely departure point for flights to Guyana, possibly beginning with a stopping service via one of its Caribbean routes such as Barbados.
Upon the availability of longer range aircraft, a direct service from New York could be introduced, according to the Caribbean360 news site.
