Jetstar.com goes mobile
Australia’s low fares airline Jetstar has created a new version of Jetstar.com that can now be quickly and easily viewed by passengers via their 3G mobile phones, no matter where they are in Australia.
Jetstar is the first Australian airline to offer a specially-designed version of its website to allow seamless internet browsing for 3G mobile technology, including the new Apple iPhone 3G which has just been launched in Australia.
Jetstar flight schedules, fares, destination and airport information are now available for all mobile users with 3G via Jetstar.com, as part of the carrier’s first stage of technology enhancements for mobile phones.
In the coming months, Jetstar passengers will be able to make changes to their JetFlex and StarClass bookings using their 3G mobile phones. Plans also include the ability for passengers to book and pay for their tickets using their 3G mobile phones.
Jetstar.com will be accessible to more than 3,000 types of mobile devices, ranging from Personal Digital Assistants such as the iPhone 3G and BlackBerry, down to standard feature phones.
Jetstar General Manager Distribution and Commercial Systems Jamie Perry said Jetstar.com had been redesigned to ensure fast website access and an improved browsing experience for all 3G mobile users.
“This technology gives Jetstar customers greater choice, convenience and efficiency when viewing information on our website. Most importantly, now Jetstar customers will be able to scroll through our website and search flight schedules or prices on the go,†Mr Perry said.
“The anticipated success of the new Apple iPhone 3G within the Australian market is expected to drive even greater traffic to the Jetstar mobile web services available.” “Our aim is to make customer interaction simpler, cleaner, flexible and fast.”
“When it comes to airline travel, an iPod has become almost as mandatory as your passport and the 3G enabled mobile handset looks set to be the next must-have accessory for Jetstar passengers,†he said.
Jetstar was the second carrier in the world to introduce JetSMS in June 2004, which allowed passengers to make ticketless flight bookings 24 hours a day via text message.
Mr Perry said Jetstar continued to be at the forefront of airline customer technology, following the introduction of free sale codeshare and interline e-ticketing with Qantas and Japan Airlines, sum of sector pricing, dynamic currency conversion, a dedicated booking engine for hire cars, Kiosk Check-In and Web Check-In.
Jetstar.com is also currently available in Japanese, Vietnamese and traditional Chinese versions, with a Thai language version soon to be introduced.
