Jetstar goes Gold Coast to Cairns direct
AAP reports that the Queensland tourist hubs of the Gold Coast and Cairns will be connected for the first time by commercial flights.
QLD Premier Anna Bligh announced domestic air carrier Jetstar will introduce three weekly flights between Cairns and the Gold Coast, saying, “In a further boost, these flights will connect with Queensland-bound Japan flights, increasing Japanese access to the far north.”
“This will open up a range of great new tourism opportunities for the tropical north and the Gold Coast.”
“Research shows that Asian travellers like to make multiple destination visits while on holiday – this new arrangement supports that,” she said.
Queensland Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said the state government had an existing agreement to provide tactical marketing support for Jetstar international flights from Japan to both the Gold Coast and Cairns, which would collectively operate 19 times weekly to Japan by Christmas.
