Jetstar launches new Bali service
BRISBANE – The global financial crisis has made people reluctant to indulge in airline travel, according to Jetstar commercial boss Unni Menon.
But those who are flying are booking budget airlines as they tighten their purse strings.
“We see the difficulties in the global climate as an opportunity to really select growth and future growth development,†said Menon.
Menon was speaking at Brisbane airport where the airline launched its newest daily A320 service from Brisbane to Denpasar, via Darwin.
“People tend to trade down in times of economic difficulty (and) certainly with our business model we would stand to benefit potentially from that.”
Menon said recent events had not changed the airline’s strategy.
“One of the strongest markets has been Indonesia, and Bali in particular,” he said.
“The threat levels to Bali has not changed since 2002 and we take very strong and close advice from experts in that area as part of our ongoing business.”
Jetstar will add a new Tokyo route from Queensland’s Gold Coast in two weeks.
