Jetstar, Pacific Blue soar in New Zealand
AUCKLAND – Jetstar has launched domestic services in New Zealand, replacing its parent, Qantas.
Jetstar will become the second largest airline in the domestic New Zealand market in capacity terms, serving four destinations and operating a five-route network of 84 weekly flights.
The services will link Auckland with Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown and Christchurch with Wellington (from June 24) and Queenstown.
Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan said the airline was looking at “a raft of measures†to help build Jetstar’s presence in New Zealand.
He said this would include working with border security authorities to make trans-Tasman travel a more seamless experience.
Buchanan also saw opportunities to develop routes between secondary cities in Australia and New Zealand.
In another boost for trans-Tasman travellers, Pacific Blue has committed to a direct flight between Brisbane and Dunedin three times a week, starting September 1.
Pacific Blue spokesman Bruce Moffat said the carrier is focusing its attention on regional markets “who have been impacted by a lack of choiceâ€.
