Jewish man sues NYC hotel over non-kosher food
An orthodox Jewish man is suing the Trump Soho Hotel after staff allegedly served a non-kosher turkey sandwich.
New Yorker Dan Miller spent $146 on the sandwich and has accused hotel staff of lying to cover up their mistake.
"The hotel created an elaborate hoax to deceive," the complaint says.
While waiting for his order during a conference at the hotel, Miller reminded staff that his food sandwich should be double-wrapper according to kosher laws.
The lawsuit claims staff responded: "Yes, of course, we are very familiar with the kosher rules, we do it all the time."
Miller became suspicious after the sandwich arrived single wrapped.
Miller photographed the sandwich when his suspicions were heightened after taking a bite, and even contacted the kosher supplier which had purportedly delivered the item.
Eventually a Trump Soho restaurant manager admitted that it was not kosher because staff had forgot to order the special meal.
"The hotel staff panicked and inappropriately responded by serving him a non-kosher meal that was made to appear kosher," the lawsuit said.
It had caused the plaintiff to commit "a serious violation of Jewish law — consuming non-kosher meat."
Miller is suing the hotel for undisclosed damages.
