July deadline set for Package Travel Directive
Proposals for the new Package Travel Directive will be published within three months.
There had been fears that the European Commission had abandoned the planned revisions, which were originally due to be announced early this year.
But ABTA confirmed this week that it has been assured by the EC that it is moving ahead with the proposals and that the industry will get to see the plans in detail by the end of July.
The association said once the details have been announced, it will be consulting with members and will be keeping the process under close review.
"Activity amending the proposal will not begin in the European Parliament or the Council until September 2013," ABTA said today.
"A swift negotiation process will be required for the Directive to complete its legislative progress before European elections in May 2014."
