Key business group joins air tax campaign
The Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce has joined the fight against Air Passenger Duty.
The group, which represents nearly 3,500 businesses, has confirmed its support of the travel industry’s A Fair Tax on Flying campaign.
The campaign is encouraging constituents to email their MP, calling for a review into the impact of APD on the UK economy.
Since its launch 14 weeks ago, over 285,000 people have backed the campaign.
George Cowcher, director and chief executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, said: "Many Chamber members have experienced first-hand the negative impact of having such high rates of Air Passenger Duty.
"Maintaining global connectivity and international competitiveness is crucial in this modern global economy, and our businesses are suffering as investment and trade heads elsewhere.
"We need to construct a system in which our aviation industry can thrive, otherwise the UK will soon find itself surpassed by its European counterparts."
Other leading Chambers which have also decided to back the campaign include the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, the Scottish Chambers of Commerce and the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
