Kingfisher vows to restore schedules by next week

India’s loss-making Kingfisher Airlines has vowed to restore flight schedules in the next five to seven days.

The airline, which flies to 46 cities in India and eight overseas destinations including London, has cancelled up to 130 flights in recent days. Its bank accounts were recently frozen for non-payment of taxes.

It said it was now talking to banks to secure funding so it can continue operating.

India’s civil aviation authority wants Kingfisher to come up with a revised, clear schedule for its operations, the BBC reported.

Kingfisher’s ‘s billionaire owner Vijay Mallya has said closing down the airline is not an option. "It will not happen. It is not in the national interest."

India’s government has ruled out any bailout for the carrier.
