Knighthood for Stelios
EasyJet found Stelios Haki-Ioannou has received a knighthood in the Queen’s birthday honours.
Sir Stelios, regarded for bringing low cost travel to millions, admitted “surprise” at being honoured. He was knighted for services to entrepreneurship.
Also knighted was former Hilton Group chief executive David Michels.
Simon Woodroffe, founder of Yo! Sushi and a fledgling chain of budget hotels, received an OBE for services to the hospitality industry.
Other OBEs went to Wales Tourism Alliance chairman Julian Burrell for services to the tourist industry, London world Trade Centre managing director Sunny Crouch for services to business regeneration and tourism in the UK, and City Inns Hotels executive chairman Sandy Orr for services to the hospitality industry.
Gary Rhodes, the celebrity chef on P&O Cruises’ Arcadia, also received an OBE.
An MBE went to Anita Newcourt, manager of special facilities at Heathrow, for services to hospitality.
