Korean Delegation Showcases “Visit Gyeongsangbukdo Year 2007”
A delegation of senior executives and officials from the Korean Province of Gyeongsangbukdo Province, southeast of Seoul, visited Sydney late last week to celebrate “Visit Gyeongsangbukdo Year 2007” with a tourism presentation and dinner for more than 100 travel agents, tour operators, select members of the Korean community in Sydney and the media.
Organised in cooperation with the Korea National Tourism Organisation Sydney Office, the 15 member delegation – the largest ever group from the province to visit Australia – was led by Mr Sang Hyo Be, Chairman, Trade & Culture Committee, Gyeongsangbukdo Provincial Council.

During his address Mr Sang said that with its unique scenery, UNESCO World Heritage listed sites and distinct culture, Gyeongsangbukdo Province “is leading in tourism in Korea”.
A key destination is Gyeongju, a showcase of natural treasures that has been called a “Museum Without Walls”. Bulguksa Temple said to be the essence of the 1000 year old culture of the Shilla Dynasty and Seokguram Grotto acknowledged as one of the world’s best Buddhist shrines are prime lures of the culturally rich province.
Mr Sang issued a genuine invitation for Australians to visit the upcoming Gyeongju World Culture Expo which will be held in the city from September 7 – October 26.
Numerous events are being planned including world food, film and fashion festivals and a world festival parade and marching performance.
Mr William Seung, Managing Director, Lotte Travel and the Australian representative for Gyeongsangbukdo Province said that Korean tourism from Australia experienced double digit growth in both January and February.
This outstanding growth has been in winter so imagine what the figures will be for the beautiful months of spring when there’s a sweeping burst of vibrant colour across the length and breadth of this exciting province, he said.
The Sydney-based Mr Seung is coordinating all promotions throughout Australia for the tourism year and the provincial destination. He said that he was keen to further develop the destination in Australia and would be happy to work with tour operators and wholesalers in developing new packages.
