Kuoni said today that it was “impossible” to tell what impact the airspace shutdown in Europe due to the volcanic ash cloud would have on its business.
The operator, giving a generally upbeat trading update ahead of the annual general meeting, said: “With large areas of European airspace currently closed as a result of the volcanic eruption in Iceland, it is impossible to many any detailed projections at present on the business impact.”
The company revealed that bookings in the UK and Benelux were up by 13% in the past four weeks but down three per cent in the year to date up to April 11.
Overall group booking in the past month were up by three per cent.
“Year to date booking volumes stood at their 2009 levels as of April 11, 2010,” a statement said.
“The Scandinavian, UK, Benelux and Asian markets have seen particularly strong bookings growth.”
