La Pleta launches “earth to table” experience
With locally sourced ingredients high on today’s culinary agenda, La Pleta by Rafael Hotels will offer a ‘hands on’ gourmet experience this summer, with a package providing an opportunity for guests to explore the mountain terrain and discover fresh, seasonal delicacies native to the region.
La Pleta is a luxury mountain retreat located in the resort of Baqueira in the Spanish Pyrenees. Spain’s premier ski resort, it is frequented by the Spanish elite including the Royal family.
Priding themselves on creative international cuisine, executive chef Angel Lorenzo and his team give a distinct Catalan twist to ingredients and flavours indigenous to the picturesque Val d’Aran region.
Foodies visiting La Pleta this summer will be able to enjoy a three-night package including guided daily excursions into the surrounding mountains and valleys to hand-pick tasty wild mushrooms including ceps and rovellons (saffron milk caps), seasonal berries and succulent snails. On returning to the hotel, the chefs will select the very best of the ingredients harvested earlier in the day to create a menu of local dishes in the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, Del Gel al Foc.
Priced at €466.06 (approx £356.50) per person, the ‘earth to table’ package is available throughout the summer season (June 27 to September 21, 2008)
Until September 2008, easyJet offers daily return flights from Bristol and London Gatwick to Toulouse starting from £43.29 return, including taxes. Car hire with Europcar costs from £26.50 per day from Toulouse (two and a half hours drive from Baqueira), based on three days hire beginning on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, fully inclusive.
