Lack of hotel rooms irks AFCON teams
Teams arriving at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea are finding no room at the inn – with two nations, Congo and Burkino Faso still searching around for more hotel rooms for players and backroom staff.
Congo coach Claude Le Roy said five of the 35-strong entourage still do not have rooms.
"There are not enough places for my staff and it’s even difficult to find rooms for the players," Le Roy told the BBC World Service.
"Some of my assistants went around to see if there were rooms available somewhere but it seems very very difficult."
"I’m not disappointed. That’s what I was expecting," he added. "I don’t want a big five-star hotel. I just want something very clean.
Equatorial Guinea had just two months to prepare for Africa’s biggest sporting event after original hosts Morocco baulked at staging the tournament due to Ebola fears.
Burkina Faso coach Paul Put was also critical of local hotel facilities, saying the event should have been put back several months to allow for more preparation time.
Equatorial Guinea previously co-hosted the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Gabon.
