Lanzarote welcomes David Cameron for Easter holiday
Lanzarote is on high security alert this week following the arrival of UK Prime Minister David Cameron and his family.
Contrary to earlier reports that suggested the Camerons were planning a holiday at the popular beach resort of Playa Blanca, they are now understood to be staying in a self-catering villa at Casa Tomaren, a restored 18th century farm complex in the centre of the island, just outside San Bartolome.
The PM is thought to have arrived in the Canaries today with his wife Samantha and their three children.
Cameron is expected to stay until Good Friday.
It is thought to be the Cameron’s first family holiday in the Canaries.
Spanish police sources confirmed to the local media that there is a security plan in place for the Prime Minister’s visit to the volcanic island which is one of the most popular winter sun destinations.
Director of Lanzarote’s tourist board Hector Fernandez said the PM’s visit was an "important pat on the back" for Lanzarote’s reputation as a holiday destination.
Casa Tomaren has excellent reviews on TripAdvisor, with one recent visitor describing it as "the perfect spot for a laidback week or two".
