Large-size flyers have new slim tool
A four-page brochure titled "Travel Tips for People of Size" is now available.
Airline policies and tips on coping are included in the brochure, which is downloadable.
"Airline travel, in particular, is such a hot topic for fat people," said Peggy Howell, spokeswoman for the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA).
"The AAPR along with those who wrote the brochure hopes to help passengers of size in making informed decisions as well as avoid any kind of uncomfortable situations. Many have had to undergo public humiliation by being called out of line to purchase a second seat. As a result, the AAPR hopes that this brochure will inform readers so that they will never be humiliated in public at the airport," the group says.
The brochure recommends to passengers of size to always book a second seat when flying with American, Southwest and Jet Blue. United Airlines may also require a second seat purchase to passengers of size if they are unable to fit in a seat with both armrests down.
