Launch of Destination Darwin – VibraNT
Darwin will be promoted as a vibrant, harbour city and a destination in its own right in a $1 million national marketing blitz.
Northern Territory Chief Minister and Minister for Tourism Clare Martin said it’s the latest instalment of Tourism NT’s Share Our Story marketing campaign.
“Darwin’s a great place to visit – we want to get that message out to as many people as possible,” Ms Martin said.
“We want Australians to think of Darwin as a place to get away for a short break.
“Darwin has unique qualities as a ‘getaway’ tourist destination, a colourful city full of characters – perfect for a tropical escape.
“The Destination Darwin campaign will run for five weeks from 26 August through to 30 September.
“It’ll include press advertising, online marketing, cooperative marketing with industry partners, sponsorships and public relations activities.
“A Darwin City Guide, with insiders’ tips on Darwin, has also been produced and will be distributed nationally through Avant Card and Travel Weekly.
“The best way to promote the city is through the words of locals, and well-known Darwinities Jimmy Shu, Matt Ward and Darlene Chin will feature in the City Guide.
“Tourism NT has also redeveloped its award-winning website travelnt.com and will be the first tourism authority in Australia to use Google Maps.
“In 2006 we have allocated $27.6 million to tourism marketing – and we’re seeing that translated into more tourists coming to the Northern Territory.
“This campaign will help to increase visitor numbers and extend Darwin’s peak season through to November.”
