Lawyers instructed to investigate illness on First Choice holiday
A mother and two daughters who became ill on a First Choice holiday in Turkey have instructed travel lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate their case.
They claim their holiday at the Club Alize hotel, Marmaris, in August was ruined when they all required hospital treatment following gastric illness.
Mrs Atkinson, 37, and her daughters aged five and 10, from Doncaster, suffered gastric symptoms, including diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever and dehydration during their two-week stay at the resort with five other family members.
They claim they had to be admitted to hospital in Turkey and placed on IV drips due to dehydration, and that their symptoms have continued since their return to the UK.
Mrs Atkinson had previously stayed at the hotel in 2013, but told her legal team the hotel ‘felt completely different’ when she visited it in 2015.
She claimed food was sometimes not hot enough and on occasions left uncovered throughout the sitting.
She also said she saw new food being added to old food in the hotel’s restaurant.
Nichola Blackburn, a travel illness expert in Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury Department, representing the family, said: "It is extremely worrying to hear how ill Mrs Atkinson and her daughters were.
"We have now launched our own investigation into the cause of their illness to provide Mrs Atkinson and her family with the answers they deserve about what caused them to fall ill."
A spokeswoman for First Choice said: "We are sorry to hear of Mrs Atkinson’s experience at the Club Alize Apartments in Marmaris last year.
"As this is now subject to legal proceedings, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.
"First Choice closely audits all resorts to which we operate to ensure that health, hygiene and comfort levels are maintained in line with industry standards."
