Leg from plane falls in New York suburb
A suburban New York homeowner heard a loud crash and was shocked to find a severed leg in her back yard.
The foot was still clad in a white Adidas sneaker and sock.
Police say the remains were from a stowaway who was crushed as the South African Airways jet lowered its landing gear at its approach to Kennedy Airport.
The flight originated in Johannesburg and made one stop in Senegal.
The airline said in a statement the flight ended with “no impact” on passengers and crew. South African Airways says it is investigating how someone stowed away on the plane.
There have been several other cases of stowaways crushed by landing gear or killed by the extreme cold at high altitudes.
