Legoland theme park planned for South Korea
UK based Merlin Entertainment will open its seventh Legoland theme park in South Korea in 2017.
The theme park and attractions operator says South Korea is one of Asia’s largest markets for Lego toys and the project will cost an estimated 300 billion won (US$270 million).
"South Korea offers both a developed theme park market and strong Lego brand recognition," CEO Nick Varney said in a statement.
Varney also said the company will continue a strategy to open a new Legoland park every two to three years.
Merlin will contribute about 100 billion won with the remaining funds coming from public and private investment in South Korea.
The new park will be located in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province and will follow previously announced Legoland theme park projects planned for Dubai and Japan.
