Libyan minister says there were two attacks and both were pre-planned
Associated Press reports that Wanis el-Sharef, eastern Libya’s deputy interior minister stated that the attacks on the U.S. Embassy on September 11 were pre-planned and timed to mark the anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center. The deputy interior minister also said that an unspecified number of suspected militants have been arrested. He told AP that other suspects are being monitored by authorities to determine links to terrorist groups.
The report that AP received from the deputy minister differs somewhat from the reports published in the US press over the past two days. This account says that a second assault was mounted against a U.S. safe house at a villa in a Benghazi equestrian club. This assault was said to have killed two American.
There is no confirmation from US sources on the validity of these statements.
