Lindner Hotels enters Belgium as 5th European Market
The German Lindner Hotels & Resorts group have taken over the Golden Tulip Antwerp Centre Hotel, located close to Antwerp’s recently renewed cathedral-style central station and in the famous diamond quarter, and renamed it as “Lindner Hotel & City Lounge†as from today.
Lindner Hotels & Resorts are a solid, family-managed German hotel group operating 33 city- and resort-hotels in the luxury niche (4 and 5 stars); the recent acquisition marks the group’s entry in Belgium, their fifth European market. Following the (Oct 1st) take-over, Lindner Hotels & Resorts Group wants to implement a series of ambitious upgrades, boosting the Antwerp hotel’s profile on both the tourist and business market.
The Golden Tulip Antwerp Centre Hotel was opened in October 2007, offering 174 rooms and suites and 13 fully-fledged conference rooms catering for the tourist and MICE-market; the hotel was managed by a Belgian company under the Golden Tulip umbrella.
Main elements for the take-over of the hotel by Lindner Hotels & Resorts were the strong industrial and business character of the region, the economic activity of one of Europe’s main sea ports, the city’s tourist attraction plus the unique location of the hotel, close to the city (shopping) centre, the Zoo and the Central Station giving direct access to the international TGV- (high speed rail) network.
In addition, the hotel is offering room for 1600 cars in its underground parking facility.
The economical relation between Antwerp and the German “hinterland†also played a crucial role in the group’s decision to acquire the hotel.
“This take-over is part of our growth strategy in markets that share affinity with Germany,†said Lindner Hotels & Resorts CEO Otto Lindner, “German visitors who visit Antwerp for a tourist excursion or business trip account for 50% of our business.â€
The Antwerp hotel joins the group’s activities in Austria, Switzerland and Spain, making it Lindner Hotels & Resorts’s introduction on a fifth European market.
On the occasion of the announcement of the take-over, Lindner Hotels & Resorts Group disclosed their plans with the Lindner Hotel & City Lounge Antwerp, including a substantial expansion of the hotel facilities and considerable upgrade of the service level.
With a recently awarded “5 Hamer†certificate, 13 multi-purpose conference rooms and a top floor reception and events lounge, offering a unique panoramic view over the city, the hotel is amongst the country’s top rank business locations.
The hotel will continue its activities under the management of Peter J. J. Nuiten, who was confirmed in his position by Lindner Hotel & City Lounge – most of the staff were invited to follow the take-over.
