Liverpool debut for Thomson Cruises
Thomson Cruises is adding Liverpool as a new ex-UK port next year.
The 1,250-passenger ship Thomson Celebration will operate three cruises from Merseyside for the first time next autumn before the ship repositions to the Canary Islands for winter 2008-09.
Thomson entered the ex-UK arena in 2005 with cruises from Southampton, Newcastle (Port Of Tyne) and Harwich with Thomson Celebration – the same ship which will sail from all four ports next year.
Head of Thomson Cruises David Selby said: “We have been looking at Liverpool for some time. With it being the European City of Culture next year and the development of a new cruise terminal, we felt it was time to be there.
“There are three sailings to start with and if it all goes well we will look to run others.”
He added: “Our ex-UK programme will be the largest yet, with carryings expected of more than 22,000 guests.
“We have a very loyal client base in the North West and not all prefer to fly to their chosen cruise ship. In addition, our taster cruise gives those who have not tried cruising the chance to experience it in three days.”
Thomson Celebration will arrive in Liverpool on October 10 and the itineraries are:
- A 13-night Iberian cruise combining Spain, Portugal and Morocco departing on October 10
- A three-night taster cruise to Cork and Dublin departing October 23
- A 12-night Canaries voyage ending in Tenerife
The programme goes on sale on July 12 followed by the line’s main brochure for 2008 by the end of the month.
