Heathrow and Gatwick airports have stepped up security in light of suspected terror attacks in Brussels.

Two explosions went off in the departures hall at Brussels international airport at around 8am yesterday morning.

Unconfirmed reports say 13 people were killed and around 35 injured.

An explosion also hit a metro station close to the main European Union buildings.

London Heathrow said in light of the events, it is working with the police who are providing a high visibility presence at Heathrow.

Gatwick Airport said: "As a result of the terrible incidents in Brussels, there will be increased police and security patrols in and around Gatwick Airport."
